The Giant's Causeway is a natural wonder on the Antrim coast of Northern Ireland, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986. It consists of approximately 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, most hexagonal, formed by volcanic eruption around 60 million years ago.
According to Irish mythology, the columns were built by the giant Finn McCool, who constructed a causeway across the sea to Scotland to fight his rival Benandonner. The opposing end — Fingal's Cave in Scotland — is made of the same distinctive basalt columns, lending the legend an uncanny plausibility.
The Giant's Causeway is approximately 60 miles (97km) from Belfast — around 1 hour 15 minutes by car. However, driving yourself means navigating unfamiliar roads, paying for parking, and missing the local context that transforms a walk among rocks into an unforgettable experience.
Visiting Giant's Causeway without a car is easy on a guided tour — we depart from Donegall Square West daily at 8:30am and handle all transport, with a knowledgeable guide providing context at every stop along the Antrim Coast.
The Causeway Coast is one of the most concentrated stretches of natural and cultural landmarks in Europe. Every Belfast Mini Coach tour visits multiple iconic stops.
Northern Ireland's most photographed natural landmark and one of the most iconic Game of Thrones filming locations — the King's Road used in Arya's escape from King's Landing.
A 350-year-old rope bridge suspended 30 metres above the Atlantic, connecting the mainland to a small island. One of the most dramatic walks on the Causeway Coastal Route.
A 13th-century ruin perched on basalt cliffs above the North Atlantic — the Game of Thrones Pyke Castle filming location for House Greyjoy.
A dramatic natural harbour used as Lordsport Harbour in Game of Thrones — where Theon Greyjoy returns to the Iron Islands. Available on our Causeway & Ballintoy tour.
Ireland's best-preserved Norman castle, built by John de Courcy in 1177. A first stop on every Giant's Causeway tour from Belfast, overlooking Belfast Lough.
“Our guide was exceptional — knowledgeable and genuinely passionate. The small group made it feel like a private tour. Absolutely the best way to see the Causeway from Belfast.”
“Did the private Giant's Causeway tour for my mum's birthday — 10 of us. The driver stopped whenever we wanted a photo. The Causeway itself blew us all away.”
“Best day of our entire Ireland trip. Punctual, professional, brilliant commentary. The Rope Bridge alone was worth the price of the whole Belfast to Causeway tour.”
Tours depart daily at 8:30am from Donegall Square West, beside Belfast City Hall. Please arrive 10 minutes before departure. Tours return at approximately 5:30–6:00pm.
Carrickfergus Castle, Cushendun Caves (Game of Thrones), The Dark Hedges (Game of Thrones King's Road), lunch stop in Ballycastle, Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge viewpoint, Giant's Causeway UNESCO World Heritage Site (90 min free time), Dunluce Castle, and a drive through Bushmills village.
Included: transport from Donegall Square West, expert local guide throughout, air-conditioned coach, Giant's Causeway stones access and all coastal walking trails. Not included: lunch (stop provided in Ballycastle), Carrick-a-Rede bridge entry (optional, paid at the gate).
The path to the Causeway stones is about 10–15 minutes from the visitor area. The columns are on uneven rocky ground — comfortable shoes with grip are strongly recommended. Easier viewpoint access is also available for those who need it.
Tours run in all weather. The Causeway Coast is genuinely dramatic in mist and rain — we recommend layers and a waterproof jacket year-round. Coastal conditions change quickly even in summer.
